Activity/Strategy

Women, youth, persons with disabilities, and female traditional authorities were
sensitized and empowered with their right to inclusion and integration in the district
assembly processes.
There were outreach and awareness creation sessions conducted on the sensitization on
sections 40-48 of the Local Governance Act.
SSF facilitated media advocacy and engagement sessions collaborating with Local
Radio Stations and community public address systems, to foster popular participation
and involvement of Civil society and marginalized groups in the District Assembly
Sub-Structures and the PRCCC.

Enhancing Citizen Participation and Social Accountability at the District Level

The implementation of the Governance component of the MLGRD/GIZ -Support for Decentralization Reforms
aimed at contributing to citizen engagement activities of the assembly and to help achieve greater citizen
satisfaction with respect to efforts of the district assembly towards development among many other
initiatives. The social audit committee capacity was built in the Obuasi Municipal and the Committee
inaugurated. This committee’s role is to provide assurance of the quality and meaningfulness of the
organization’s claimed social performance. The committee constitutes 3 local citizens from the municipal, 1
CSO representative and a focal person from the assembly.
