Exploring Ongoing Projects: Ghana’s Strengthening Accountability Mechanism Project (GSAM)

In our quest to make a positive impact on society, the Social Support Foundation (SSF) has been actively involved in numerous ongoing projects in collaboration with international NGOs. These projects are a testament to our commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and community development.

The Ghana’s Strengthening Accountability Mechanism Project (GSAM)

One such project that deserves special attention is “Ghana’s Strengthening Accountability Mechanism Project” (GSAM). GSAM is a remarkable initiative aimed at bridging the communication gap between citizens and district assemblies. The project’s core objective is to create a platform for citizens and assembly authorities to engage in dialogue, identify areas of improvement, and address feedback gathered by citizens and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) regarding the performance of district assemblies on Capital Development Projects.

Key Activities and Strategies

GSAM, led by SSF, has implemented a range of activities and strategies to achieve its goals:

  • Town-Hall Meetings: GSAM organized town-hall meetings in both project districts to expand opportunities for citizens and assembly authorities to engage in productive dialogues. These meetings have played a crucial role in fostering cooperation and addressing critical issues.
  • Dissemination of Performance Audits: GSAM actively disseminates the results of the performance audits at the district and community levels. This information is shared with the objective of making information on Municipal and Metropolitan District Assemblies (MMDAs) capital projects’ performance accessible to citizens within the project districts.
  • Training for Community Monitors: The Social Support Foundation organized training sessions for the Network of Community Monitors (NCDM) to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to actively participate in monitoring projects within their respective communities.
  • Community Dialogues: GSAM has been at the forefront of organizing community dialogues to discuss and address key issues that emerge from action plans and the Scorecard generation process. These dialogues have facilitated meaningful conversations and effective problem-solving.
  • Bi-Annual Performance Updates: To keep citizens informed and engaged, GSAM disseminates bi-annual performance updates on projects through radio jingles, announcements, and radio discussions in 50 Sub-Saharan (SA) districts. This ensures that a broad audience is aware of the progress and challenges of ongoing projects.

Collaboration and Support

The success of GSAM would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of various stakeholders, including international donors. This project is a shining example of what can be achieved when communities, government bodies, and NGOs work together with a shared vision of creating positive change. At Social Support Foundation, we remain committed to our mission of promoting accountability and community development. The GSAM project is just one of the many ways we are working to make a meaningful difference in society. Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing projects and their impact on the communities we serve.
